Welcome, my fellow Brits! If you have already read my articles about travel plans and hotel recommendations in Greece, then you must be eager to embark on your Greek adventure. However, before you go, there are a few tips that will make your trip to Greece smoother and more enjoyable.
1. Currency
The official currency in Greece is the Euro, not the British Pound. Remember to exchange some Euros before your trip. Most hotels, restaurants, and shops accept credit cards, but having cash on hand may be more convenient in smaller towns or remote areas.
2. Language
While the official language in Greece is Greek, many people in popular tourist areas can speak some English. Nonetheless, learning a few basic Greek words and phrases, such as “thank you” (efharisto) and “hello” (yassou), will make your journey more interesting and convenient.
3. Time Difference
Greece is in the Eastern European Time Zone, which is 2 hours ahead of the UK. Remember to adjust your watches and devices when you arrive in Greece.
4. Cultural Etiquette
Although Greeks are very friendly and welcoming, it’s important to be aware of and respect cultural etiquette. For example, when visiting churches and monasteries, dress appropriately. Additionally, avoid loud noise in public places and show respect for local customs and traditions.
5. Safety
Greece is a very safe tourist destination, but it’s always important to remain vigilant wherever you go. Keep an eye on your belongings, especially in crowded areas such as markets, buses, and tourist attractions.
6. Travel Insurance
Don’t forget to purchase travel insurance! While Greece has a good healthcare system, insurance can provide necessary coverage in case of unforeseen circumstances.
I hope these tips will help you have a pleasant trip in Greece! If you have any other questions or need more travel advice, feel free to leave a comment, and I’ll be happy to assist you.
Also, I would like to remind you that in my previous articles, I provided detailed information about various cities in Greece, such as Athens, Delphi, Corfu Island, and Santorini, along with their distinctive hotels.
